Amex ChatGPT Business Credit: $300/Year on Business Platinum and Gold

American Express added a $300 annual ChatGPT Business credit to the Business Platinum and Business Gold cards on May 12, 2026. Here's who qualifies, what's covered, and whether it's worth it.

American Express launched a new statement credit on May 12, 2026: up to $300 per calendar year on ChatGPT Business subscriptions, charged to either the Business Platinum Card or the American Express Business Gold Card. Amex says it’s the first ChatGPT Business credit ever attached to a credit card.

The Business Gold is where this matters most. A $300 credit takes the card’s $375 annual fee down to an effective $75.

At a Glance

Which ChatGPT Tier Does the Credit Cover?

Only ChatGPT Business at roughly $20 per user per month (annual billing). ChatGPT Business currently requires a minimum of two seats, so the realistic baseline subscription cost is around $480 per year — which means the $300 credit offsets the subscription but does not fully cover it. Add a third seat and you’re at $720/year, with $300 still credited back.

ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Enterprise are all excluded. If you currently pay for Plus or Team on either business card, you’ll need to upgrade to Business for the credit to trigger.

What This Does to the Annual Fee Math

Business Gold ($375 fee)

  • Minus $300 ChatGPT credit = $75 effective fee
  • Still earns 4x on top two categories (up to $150K combined spend/year)
  • Best new-card pitch the Business Gold has had in a long time

Business Platinum ($895 fee)

  • Minus $300 ChatGPT credit = $595 before the rest of the coupon book
  • Add wireless, Dell, Indeed, and Adobe credits and many holders are already net-positive
  • The ChatGPT credit is a nice add, not the reason to apply

Should You Apply for One of These Cards?

Get the Business Gold if your business has top spend in two of its 4x categories (advertising, technology, restaurants, gas stations, transit, or shipping) and you can actually use ChatGPT Business (minimum two seats). At $75 effective fee after the full credit, the card pencils out faster than almost any other premium business card — as long as you’d be paying for the AI subscription anyway.

Get the Business Platinum only if the rest of the card — lounges, hotel status, the existing statement credits — already makes sense for you. A $300 credit alone does not justify $895.

Skip it if ChatGPT Plus is plenty for what you do. ChatGPT Business starts at two seats and roughly $480/year, so signing up for Business just to capture the $300 credit is a worse deal than staying on Plus.

If You Already Have the Card

Do two things this week:

  1. Enroll the credit in your Amex account. Like every Amex benefit, it does not auto-apply until you opt in.
  2. Move your ChatGPT charge to the eligible card. A $300 swing for five minutes of work.

If you’re on ChatGPT Plus or Team, upgrade to Business before charging it.

What Amex Did Not Include

A few obvious gaps worth naming:

  • No personal-card credit. The Amex Platinum at $895 could easily absorb a ChatGPT Plus credit. It didn’t get one.
  • No Team coverage. Team is the natural fit for small companies with a few users. Excluded.
  • Enrollment required. Credits you don’t enroll in don’t post, full stop.

My Take

This is the rare Amex coupon-book add that hits the demographic head-on. The overlap between “small business owner on a Business Gold or Business Platinum” and “person paying for AI at work” is large and growing. $300 is a meaningful offset against a ~$480/year baseline subscription — not enough to make it free, but enough that any business already paying for ChatGPT Business should move the charge to one of these cards today.

The Business Gold at $75 effective is the real story. If you’ve been weighing the Business Gold against an Ink Business Preferred or Spark, this credit changes the answer for a lot of people.

CardStack tracks every statement credit on your cards — the new ChatGPT credit, the wireless line item, Dell, Indeed, and the rest of the Amex coupon book — so you can see what you’ve used, what’s still on the table, and when each one resets. A $300 credit is only worth $300 if you spend it before the calendar year flips.
